The story goes……
One afternoon, late in 2002, a small group of Caboolture business and community folk were enjoying a coffee session. When the last frothy milk bubbles of their cappuccinos had been drained, a plan had been hatched for Caboolture to host a country music festival!
Now - what about a name?
Caboolture is located on the fringe of both Brisbane city to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north. This ideal location enables visitors to enjoy both an urban and country experience... hence the birth of the URBAN COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL in 2004.
For the dream to become a reality and develop into a mainstay on the national event calendar, the festival needed to be large from the outset. Since inception, the support of Moreton Bay Regional Council, Queensland Events and many local businesses and organisations has played a substantial role in this dream coming to fruition.
But we want it to be unique!
This challenge was met by creating a festival hub throughout the Caboolture CBD with a main concert, or signature event, on the Saturday night at the Caboolture Showgrounds. This Concert featured eight hours of national headline artists which attracted thousands of punters who filled the showground ring from fence to fence - a sight never to be forgotten by the first time organisers! This vision, plus the adrenalin pumping by Lee Kernaghan on stage has left an indelible stamp on the memory of many.
And so the festival continues in 2010!
Always held on the Queensland May long weekend (Labour Day) the festival has flourished and now runs for four days. The free stage entertainment on offer has doubled and the quality of artists is up there with the best. There are now 15 stages and loads of entertainers offering the best free entertainment in the country. Add this to the many pubs and clubs that provide quality entertainment and hospitality over the weekend and you have the best of the best in country music.
For the first time the festival will welcome Kasey Chambers who will be joined by her band on the Main Concert stage. We'll also be bringing back the The Stockman's Arena at Next Generation Station which was a huge hit at it's first appearance in 2009 as well as 4 jam packed days of entertainment.
So join the thousands of visitors who come from every corner of the state, country and overseas and be at Urban Country from 30 April to 3 May 2010.
An event not to be missed!!
